HALOISITA NO EMBASAMENTO CRISTALINO ALTERADO DE SALVADOR (BA)

SHIGUEMI FUJIMORI

Resumo

The granulitic deeply weathered rocks of Salvador present original fractures filled by endellite (halloysite 4H2O) and halloysite 2H2O, with 20-25% of the former mineral. However kaolinite is the predominant clay mineral of the weathered granulites. The fractures and shear zones that continue down to the unweathered granulites are not filled by any material so that weathering under favorable climatic conditions around Salvador is the responsible for the origin of the halloysite.
